Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Associates of South Texas opens southside office
July 3, 2007

Joseph D. Diaz, M.D., founder of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Associates of South Texas (AAIASTx), is pleased to announce the opening of a new office on the southside of San Antonio, in the Southwest Medical Office Building at 7500 Barlite Blvd., Suite 106 (next to Southwest General Hospital).

Board certified by the American Boards of Allergy and Immunology and Internal Medicine, Dr. Diaz and the other board-certified physicians at the state-of-the-art southside office started seeing patients the first week of June.  AAIASTx also has offices in the medical center and Stone Oak areas of San Antonio.

“There is a definite demand for allergy and asthma medical services south of downtown, as evidenced by the hundreds of patients we see at the medical center location from the southside of San Antonio and from many south Texas cities,” said Dr. Diaz, formerly a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine and the director of the Allergy/Immunology Fellowship Program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.   “My father Dr. José Diaz maintained his family practice on the southside for more than three decades, and now our practice is there—extending the same personal care that made him so admired.”

NEW MEMBER OF TEAM:  In addition to opening the new office, Dr. Diaz welcomes allergist John P. Dice, M.D., to the AAIASTx team at the new southside office.  Doctors Diaz and Dice will be joined at the southside office by certified Physician Assistant Melissa E. Garcia P.A.-C., a member of the AAIASTx team for five years.  Both Diaz and Garcia are bilingual, as are many members of the practice.

Board certified by the American Boards of Allergy and Immunology and Internal Medicine, and a former Air Force lieutenant colonel who received both the Air Force Achievement and Meritorious Service medals, Dr. Dice brings 13 years of experience as a physician, including 10 years as a practicing allergist.

He previously served as a staff allergist and director of the Immunizations Clinic at Wilford Hall Medical Center and as an instructor at its allergy and immunology fellowship training program, one of the largest and most-respected training programs for allergists in the nation.  He has published a number of research and review papers and was a guest lecturer at the largest allergy and immunology conference in the country.

Dr. Dice is a fellow of both the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, and a member of the Association of Uniformed Services Allergists and Immunologists; Texas Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Society; and San Antonio Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Society.  He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in economics and pre-medicine and completed his medical training at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va.

DR. JOSEPH DIAZ:  Named a Texas Super Doctor by his peers in 2006 and 2007 in Texas Monthly magazine, Dr. Diaz graduated from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio with high honors and a B.S. degree in biology. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Texas. His internship, residency and fellowship in Allergy and Immunology were completed at the University of South Florida College of Medicine.

Since opening his private practice, Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Associates of South Texas in 1989 to treat asthma, allergy and immune function disorders of adults and children, Dr. Diaz has served as clinical assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and was appointed training program director of the Allergy/Immunology Fellowship training program for several years.

In addition to his private practice, Dr. Diaz is the president and medical director of Allergy and Asthma Research Center, established in 1989 to conduct research studies to find cutting edge medical advancements and medications for asthma, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and diabetes.

Discovery Clinical Trials, a new clinical research study center also established by Dr. Diaz, will conduct research studies at the southside office.
